Gators Clinch Region Championship with wins over Groves

The Ware County Gators snapped a three game skid and clinched the Region 3AAAAA Championship on Saturday by pounding the Groves Rebels in a double header on Saturday. The Gators behind the strong pitching of Tyler Davis and Ty Bennett, ended the regular season by defeating Groves 15-0 and 22-2 while giving the Gators their 17th and 18th wins of the season.

The Gators Celebrated Senior Day on Saturday as Ty Hobbs, Ty Bennett, Tyler Davis, Dayton Beasley, Matthew McQuaig, Austin Chaney, Kyle Valentine, Brett Evans and Jacob Woodard took the field together for the last regular season game.

Coach Yeomans hopes this momentum will carry the Gators deep into the playoffs as they will face Lee County who is traditionally a baseball title contender. Ware's Region Championship will ensure the Gators are home for at least the first two rounds of State Championship play, providing they win the best 2/3 series agains the first two opponents.

The Baseball Region Championship by the Gators is the 6th Region Championship won by Gator Athletic Teams this year. Baseball joins Football, Riflery, Wrestling, Girls Golf and Girls Track as Region Champions this season.
