Gators Incredible Season Ends

Gators Incredible Season Ends

The 2016 Baseball Season sadly came to an end on Saturday as the visiting Statesboro Blue Devils held on to a tight 2-1 game to knock off the Sub Region Champion Ware County Gators. Your 15 wins, which included a 9 game winning streak was an outstanding accomplishment.  I have watched this group of Seniors literaly grow up in my house. They are a special group who began their baseball careers along with my son many, many years ago although it seems like that period of time passed by too quickly. I have great memories of weekends filled with baseball with this group pictured below. When you have been in athletics for 30+ years, you have a great sense of appreciation of what a group of Seniors mean to their respective teams. This group of Seniors are like brothers. They had each others back and played the game with a great deal of enthusiasm. They trained hard and they played hard. I didn't get to see their last series as Gators, but I listened to every pitch LIVE on my cell phone from Columbus at the State Rifle Championship thanks to the great sponsors of Gators Baseball (Satilla Motors, Lee Hardware, Robbie Roberson Ford, United First Federal Credit Union, Farmers and Builders Ace Hardware, The Body Shop, Jerry J's, Prime South Bank, J Green and Company Jewelers and Morton and Peavey Dentistry)

You guys had great careers and I am glad for having the priviledge of watching you grow from boys to fine young men. Best of luck to Taylor Meadows, Kobe Manders, Tristan Guess, Austin Lairsey, and Zachary Strickland.

Game 3:

Not even a strong hitting and pitching performance from Cody Grant could carry Ware County past Statesboro at Home on Saturday as the Gators suffered a 2-1 defeat.

Grant reached base three times in the game the Gators. He singled in the fifth and seventh innings.

Grant was a workhorse on the hill for Ware County. Grant allowed two earned runs, seven hits and one walk while striking out four over seven innings of work.

Dalton Ross got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three, walked three and surrendered seven hits.

Grant ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss.

Statesboro went up for good in the sixth, scoring two runs on a two-run home run by Ty Tiddick.
