The Lowndes County Vikings will come to the Swamp Friday night with a 5-0 record and ranked number one in the states highest classification. Lowndes is 17-5-1 overall against the Gators and have won 10 of the last 11 times they have played. In 2004, the Vikings were 15-0 and won the GHSA State Football Title. In 2005, the Vikings started the season 4-0 and were ranked number one in the state and second in the nation. The team had outscored their opponents 199-27 through the first four games of the season. That team came to the Swamp and were defeated 28-7. Lowndes would go on and finish the season 14-1 and capture their second consecutive State title.
There are a lot of similarities between the 2005 and the 2017 Lowndes teams. In 2005, the Vikings were averaging 49 points per game and gving up just under 7 per game before they came to the Swamp. In 2017, Lowndes comes to the Swamp averaging 55 points per game while surrendering just over 7 points per game. The Gators have arguably one of the toughest schedules in the state and will certainly be battle tested once Region play begins in two weeks.
We have a great opportunity as a community to come out in full force and give the Gators a true Home Field advantage. Let's pack the place!
