The Ware County Gators improved to 3-1 on the season with a 25-7 victory over Jonesboro Friday night in the Swamp. The Gators waisted little time jumping out on the Cardinals as they took a commanding 15-0 in the first quarter. Freshman quarterback Thomas Castellanos scored from 17 yards out with 6:24 left to go in the first quarter and pushed the score to 8-0 by converting the 2 point play. Castellanos would score again with 2:28 left in the first quarter on a 9 yard run. Robert Jacobs point after made the score 15-0.
Unable to take advantage of a Ken Standley fumble recovery in the second quarter, the Gators put together an 11 play, 80 yard drive that ended with Castellanos' thrird touchdown of the half. Jacob's point after made the score 22-0 at the half.
Ware took advantage of a short 14 yard Jonesboro punt in the third quarter and Jacob's was able to connect on a 24 yard field goal to put the Gators out front 25-0. A late Jonesboro touchdown by Kendaris Hill made the final score 25-7.
Dream Gainer and Thomas Castellanos combined to for 217 yards rushing to lead the ator offensive attack. Castellanos was also 5/9 for 79 yards passing.
The Gators have an open date this week and will use the week off to work on blocking, takling and fundamentals as they get ready for Glynn Academy on September 21st in the Swamp
