The Ware County Gators won another big game on the road against a scrappy South Effingham team Friday night to move into a tie with Wayne County in Region 2AAAAA play. The Gators waisted little time imposing their will on the Mustangs by taking the opening drive 58 yards and scoring in four plays as Thomas Castellanos hit Chris Jones in the endzone with a 30 yard touchdown pass. Robert Jacobs exptra point put the Gators up 7-0 with just under two minutes into the game.
South Effingham put together a great drive to answer the bell but missed a field goal. The Gators took the ball and raced 80 yards in four plays with Brandon Mills scoring on a 32 yard touchdown run (7 carries for 132 yards) The Mustangs did a good job of keeping the Ware offense on the sideline but the Ware defense orchestrated a bend but don't break Erk Russell defense that stopped their drives. The Gators scored again on 26 yard touchdown run by Thomas Castellanos. Jacobs point after made the score 21-0 at the half.
South Effingham put together a long drive in the third quarter only to have it stall after the Gators forced a fumble on their own 6 yard line. The Gators drove the ball the length of the field and fumbled inside the 10 to give the ball back the Mustangs. The Gator defense answered the bell and forced a Mustang fumble into the endzone which was recoverd by Ladedric Castellanos in the endzone. Jacobs remained true on the night adding the extra point and the Gators led 28-0.
The scrappy Mustangs wouldn't surrender and put together a 75 yard drive that resulted in their only score of the night, but Logan Braucht blocked the extra point leaving the Gators out front 28-6. The Gators pushed the score to 35-6 on their last possession following a Brandon Mills 47 yard run to cap a 54 yard yard drive. Jacobs point after made the final score 35-6.
The Gators will use the coming week to try and get healthy down the stretch as they will host New Hampstead on Senior Night next Friday night in the Swamp. Kick off is set for 7:30.
