9th Grade Football Team Remains Unbeaten

Colquitt was undefeated coming into the game and they have played a lot of the teams on our schedule so we knew they were pretty good. Our kids really got up for the game, they were calling plays our scout team was running they had seen on film Monday before we even went over them.

Colquitt received the opening kickoff and started the drive on the 35. On the 4th play of the drive Trey Hargrove intercepted a pass and ran in back 50 yards for a touchdown. Brody Hall added the extra point.

7-0 Gators

The Packers returned the kickoff for a touchdown and added the extra point to tie the score at 7.

7-7 Tie

KJ Baker was one block away from returning the next Kickoff for a touchdown before being tackled at the 50 yard line. After a couple of big runs from Caiden Johns and a 15 yard catch by Khalil Clowers on 3rd Down the gators got the ball down to the 1 yard line before a controversial touch back call gave the Packers the ball on the 20 to start their drive.

The Packers scored on a 30 yard run off tackle on their next drive and added the extra point.

14-7 Packers

The Gators went three and out on the next drive. The Gator offense wasn't off the field long. LJ Hall picked off a pass on the first play to get the ball back. LJ has had at least one interception in every game all season and they have all come in big spots.

End of 1st Quarter 14-7 Packers

Big runs from Brandon Washington and Trey Hargrove got us down to the ten yard line and on the 4th play of the drive Caiden Johns put the ball in the end zone. The packers blocked the Extra point making the Score 14-13 .

14-13 Packers

The Packers went 3 and out on the next drive before punting the ball down to the 30 for the gators to take over. A couple of play later Trey Hargrove followed the blocks of Malique Flannigan and Johnathan Strickland into the end zone from 40 yards out. The gators failed to convert the 2pt Conversion attempt.

19-14 Gators

DJ Loristen intercepted a pass on the 20 yardline to end the next Packers drive. The Gators were forced to punt after 3 downs to give the ball back to the Packers with less than a minute left in the half.

The Packers moved the ball down the 15 yard line before completing a pass right before the half to take the lead.

21-19 Packers Half Time

The Gators took over at the 20 to start the second Half. The Packer defense forced a punt from the Gators and took over at mid field.

On the 5th play of the drive Colquitt threw a wheel route to the running back out of the backfield to score a touchdown from 30 yards out.  The extra point banged off the upright.

27-19 Packers

The Gators started the drive at the 20 yard line. Caiden Johns, Khalil Clowers, and Trey Hargrove got behind the blocks of offensive lineman Gavin Moore, Zander Moye, Harrison Dyke, Johnathan Strickland, and Cameron Gonsalves and tight ends Landon Dean and Caiden Henderson and without attempting a pass marched down the field. Trey Hargrove finished the drive off with a 5 yard touchdown run. Brandon Washington rolled out on the two point conversion attempt and didn't like what he saw so he took it in himself to tie the game.

27-27

The Gator Defense forced a punt on the next possession but the Packers did a great job pinning us down inside the 3 yard line. Jackson Denton did a great job leading the guys on a 14 play drive down to the one yard line before Brandon Washington broke the tie with a QB sneak.  Brody Hall on the Extra Point.

34-27 Gators

The Packers took over on the 35 yard line with 20 seconds left and one timeout.  3 plays later they had moved the ball down to the 20 yard line and were awarded a time out with less than a second on the clock. On the last play of the game the Packers ran a reverse and scored to make the 2pt conversion attempt for the game. The QB was pressured by Garrick Griffin and he threw up a fade to the back corner of the end zone, LJ Hall had the receiver covered up and  it fell incomplete.

Our offense played great in the 4th quarter wearing them down and rushing for almost 150 yards late to run the clock and put the game away.

Our Defense was awesome all day. We gave up some points, but when you air it out like they do its hard not to find a guy with room to run sooner or later. We talked all week about the way they play on offense and that it was important to control our emotions if things went really good or really bad for us early. With the way they play they can erase a lead on you quickly but they also put the ball in the air a lot and our guys are great at playing the ball. Our guys did that even better than I could have expected we had so many ups and downs in this game and they kept fighting and pulled it out. If we were looking for a game to show how they would respond when things weren't going their way we couldn't have scripted it any better.
