Gators Come Up Short Against Rockledge

The Ware County Gators fought four quarters against a very good and tough Rockledge football team Friday night before coming up short 19-7 in the season opener for the Gators. Rockledge's Ladarius Tennison's 98 yard kickoff return to open the game set the tone early for the Raiders that put the Gators down a touchdown just 15 seconds into the game. The extra point failed giving Rockledge an early 6-0 lead. The two teams traded possesions until Elias Allen found Raheim Sanders open on a screen play that covered 77 yards. Point after was good putting the Raiders up 13-0 at the half. The Gators got the ball to start the second half and qucikly answered the bell with a 7 play 62 yard drive that ended with a 30 yard TD pass to Brandon Mills from Thomas Castellanos. Henry Bates point after was good and the Gators cut the lead in half.

The two teams played great defense in the second half giving the offense a couple of opportunities to erase the lead, but Rockledge flexed their muscles and held the Gators out of the endzone. The Raiders scored a late 4th quarter touchdown and the game ended 19-7.

Ware will host  Burke County next Friday in the Swamp.
