Gators Ride Mustangs 49-28

The Ware County Gators edged one game closer to a Region Championship rematch with rival Wayne County with a 49-28 victory over South Effingham in the Swamp Friday night. The Gators fell behind early in the first minutes of the game as South Effingham recovered a pooch kickoff and muscled their way to an early 7-0 lead. The Gators waisted no time tying the game as Dream Gainer scored on a 6 yard run. Brody Hall's first of 7 extra points notted the game at 7. After trading punts, the Gators got on the board again and took the lead for good on the first of four Thomas Castellanos' touchdowns. Castellanos scored on a 52 yard touchdown run on fourth and one. Brody's kick made the score 14-7. Ware continued to pour it on in the second quarter as Castellanos scored again from 30 yards out. Hall's kick made the score 21-7. After holding the Mustangs to a three and out, the Gators would score their third touchdown of the quarter on a 74 yard scamper by Dream Gainer. Hall's kick made the score 28-7. South Effingham managed to cut the lead to 28-14 with just 14 seconds left in the half. 

Ware came out smoking again in the second half as Castellanos raced 63 yards into paydirt for his third touchdown on the night. Brody Hall remained true and the score was 35-14. South Effingham kept chipping away at the lead and scored on a 46 yard pass to cut the lead to 35-21. Ware answered the bell when Catellannos again got loose on a 11 yard run with 9:42 left in the fourth quarter. Brody Hall connected on his sixth extra point of the game and Ware jumped to a 42-21 lead. The Mustangs answered with a 15 yard TD pass to make the score 42-28, but the Gators put their stamp on the game with a 1 yard run by Cah'zer McKoy with just 1:27 left in the game. Hall's extra point was good and the Gators win the game 49-28.

The Gators end the game with 459 total yards (393 rushing and 66 passing). The Gator Defense played incredible holding he state's highest scoring offense to just 28 points and only 5 yards rushing. 

Thomas Castellanos had 227 yards rushing on 14 carries and four rushing touchdowns while completing 7/13 passes for 65 yards. Dream Gainer added 125 yards on 14 carries with 2 TD's while Cah'zer McKoy had 18 carries for 72 yards and a score. Brody Hall was 7/7 on extra points.

The Gators will travel to Pooler next Friday night to take on New Hampstead. Kickoff is set for 7:30. The game will be played at the Pooler Recreation Complex located on 200 Preston Stokes dr, Pooler, GA 31322.
