Gators Edge Pierce 55-48

The Ware County Gators notched their second consecutive victory of 2018 with a strong finish, knocking off rival Pierce County last night in the Swamp 55-48. The Gators trailed after the first and at halftime, but came out blazing in the second half holding the Bears to just 7 third quarter points. The Gators held on to the lead to grab the win.

Adarius Scott led all scorers with 18 points (4 three point shots) followed by AJ Pinkney with 15 points. The Gators open up Region play on Friday at home against New Hampstead.

Ware County rallied from a seven-point deficit in the final three minutes in nipping the Bears in the opening game of the day. Down 27-21 entering the fourth quarter, the Gators outpointed Pierce County 16-9 for the come from-behind victory. PCHS claimed a 6-4 first quarter advantage. The Bears took a 14-12 lead into the break after each team scored eight points during the second period. Pierce County extended its lead to six by the end of the third stanza outscoring the Gators 13-9 for a 27-21 lead. T.J. Denson led a balanced Ware County attack that featured nine players reach the scoring Column. Denson finished with a game-high tying eight points while Brandon Mills and Jalen Melvin contributed seven and six points respectively. Cameron Brown and Isiah Sharpe were next with three points apiece. DeNelius Kemp, Zach Swinson, Jecariah Taylor and Tony Bethea contributed two points each. Jermain Brewton led six Pierce County players in the scoring column with eight points. Jayden Crews followed with seven points. Emmanuel Jernigan and Ty Myles bagged six points apiece. Christian Edwards and Deon Bell netted five and four points respectively.
