The Ware County Gators defeated the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes 57-52 Saturday night in the Swamp with a smothering defense that gave the Gators a 21-7 lead in the first quarter. The Gators kept their foot on the gas in the second quarter and led 36-27 at the half.
The Gators came out a little cold to start the third quarter as Fitzgerald took their first lead of the night to start the fourth quarter 42-41. The Gators muscled their way to a 16-10 fourth period to gain the victory.
Rock Taylor's 19 points led the Gators. Jamon Holmes and Thomas Castellanos added 11 and 10 points respectively while DJ Harris added 9. Challum Harris added four while Chris Jones and Maekal Cason added 2 point each.
The Gators will travel to Nahunta Tuesday for a game against Brantley County at 7:30.
JV Boys Result: Ware 47 Fitzgerald 38
The JV Boys Basketball improved to 2-0 on the season as they sent the Purple Hurricanes back to Fitzgerald 47-38 tonight. Tied 11-11 after the first quarter, the Gators outscored the Hurricanes 9-6 in the second quarter to take a 20-17 lead into halftime. The game remained closed in the third quarter but a 17 point fourth quarter iced the game for the Gators.
Brandon Mills and Thomas Castellanos chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively while Zac Swinson and Jaylin Melvin added 6 points each. Cameron Brown added 5 while Dominick Williams added 4 points. Dernelius Kemp and Cletwan Screven rounded out the scoring with 3 and 2 points respectively.
The Gators will travel to Bradwell on December 14th for a 5:30 game in Hinesville.
