Gators Advance in Region Basketball Tournament with 71-63 Win Over South Effingham

The Ware County Gators became on of the first teams in the state to secure their position in the GHSA State Baskerball Tournament by knocking of region opponent South Effingham 71-63 in tonight's first round of the Region 2AAAAA Basketball Tournament. The Gators victory sends them to a Semi-Final showdown on Wednesday with Wayne County in Jesup at 8:00.

The Gators eased out to a 17-14 first quarter lead and outscored the Mustangs by nine in the second to talk a 43-31 lead at the half. The Gator maintained the lead in the second half to end South Effingham's season.

Senior Chris Jones scored a season high 23 points to lead the Gators. Freshman Thomas Costellanos chipped in 11 points while Zak Swinson and Jamon Holmes scored 9 and 8 points respectively. Other scorers for the Gators included Rock Taylor and Chalum Harris with 4 each, DJ Harris with 3 points while Jeremiah O'Hara and Shemar Dyett each added 1 point.
