The Ware County Gators lost a tough game against New Hampstead 57-50 in Jesup last night and will enter the state basketball tournament as the number 4 seed from Region 2AAAAA. The Gators trailed 18-11 after the first quarter but cut the lead to 27-22 at the half. Ware played tough in the final two quarters but could not overcome the early deficit.
Byron McKelvin led the Gators with 20 points. Thomas Castellanos added 8 while Chris Jones and Rock Taylor added 8 and 7 points respectively. Zak Swinson and Jeremiah O'Hara each added three points. The Gators advance to the GHSA State Basketball Tournament next week. The opponent and time will be announced later, but we wish them the very best of luck as only 32 high school teams are still playing ball and we are one of them. Go Gators!
