The Gator mens' varsity soccer team dropped a tough non-region match tonight against visiting Coffee County by a final of 5-0. Ware, playing with two key starters still sidelined, gave up two early goals off of deflections of free kicks within the first ten minutes of the match, to go down 2-0. Settling down, the Gators played well, circulating the ball, and creating some chances on goal. Coffee was able to get one more goal at the 15 minute mark in the first half on a long ball played in that was collected well by the forward, who was able to strike it home.
In the second half, Coffee again hit early, scoring at the 38 minute mark, making the score 4-0. Again, Ware settled in and played solidly, only to give up a goal at the 20 minute mark, on a well played cross by Coffee. In the final 20 minutes of the match, Ware was able to create 4 good chances on goal, but unable to convert.
This was another tough non-region match against a quality opponent. Although the scoreline was 5-0, this was actually a decent performance as far as ball movement and possession. We just continued to have problems finishing off of our build up play. We should have our regular starting line-up back for next week, as we had two of our key players still out nursing injuries.
Ware will get back to region play next Tuesday, as Statesboro High comes to the Swamp, and next Thursday, Ware will travel to South Effingham for their second region match of the week.
