In their first visit to the state playoffs in four years, carrying a number 3 seed, the Ware County Gators lost a heartbreaker match to the host Locust Grove by a final of 4-0. Locust Grove came out and took advantage of Ware mistakes, scoring off of throw ins and set pieces, to take a 4-0 lead at half. The Gators, however, would settle, and play Locust Grove even for the entire 40 minutes of the second half, creating a number of chances in front of goal, but unable to convert.
"We had a little stage fright early in the match, and it cost us. Once we settled down, we played with them, but we just dug too deep a hole for ourselves. The way we played in the second half, though, is a strong statement on the quality of young men we have. It would have been easy to just lay down after that first half, but we came out resolute, and kept the ball in their half for around 20 minutes. We just had some unlucky bounces here and there, and were unable to convert that possession into goals. We will now get ready for the off season, and having a solid core, who now have state playoff experience, we expect big things going into next season."
