Ware Rifle Team Wins State Championship in Columbus

Ware Rifle Team Wins State Championship in Columbus

The Ware County Rifle Team won the GHSA State Rifle Championship this afternoon at Ft. Benning in Columbus, Ga by firing past all competition and defeating second place and defending State Champion, East Coweta by 7 shots. Senior Kimberlee Nettles led Ware with a 291 with 21 center shots. Junior Courtney Harris also shot a 291 with 16 center shot. Ashton Newland place 3rd on the team with a 290 while Freshman Tyler Hanson shot a 288. Ben Smith took 5th with a 285.

Our four individual shooters did an amazing job as well as Bryce Young fired a 285, Rayne Riggins a 283, Tori Moseley a 277  Jonathan King a 269. Most teams declare who the top five shooters are before the competition, but Coach opted not tell the kids which five scores were the counting scores prior to the competition which proved to be a clever strategy that ultimately led to the State Title. It was the first State Title in 20 years and Ware's 3rd title overall.

A complete scoring summary will be posted when available. Riflery is a long brutal season that starts in August and continues until late April. We are very proud of our team. Go Gators!
