The Ware County Rifle Team secured a spot in the GHSA State Rifle Championship with an 1174 to 1082 win against Turner County High School in a semifinal match. In this match Rifle Team Head Coach Maurice England and Assistant Coaches Duane Caswell and Dave Hanson had to select five shooters who would become the scoring team where only the top four shooter scores would comprise the team's official score. Coach England and staff picked the right combination of shooters: Ben Smith Jr led the Gators by shooting a 296, followed by Laci Jewell with a 294, Tyler Hanson 293, and Rayne Riggins summed up the team score with a 291. Bryce Young the fifth member of the team shot a 285.
The GHSA State Rifle Championship will be hosted by the United States Army at Fort Benning, Georgia on Saturday April 28, 2018 where the Gator will defend their State Title.
