Wayne Defeats Lady Gators in Region Playoff Game

Ware Pitches Well, But Can't Find Enough Runs In Loss To Wayne County

*The Lady Gators will travel to Whitewater next Wednesday for the first round of the GHSA State Playoffs. First pitch is set for 4:00 with game two to follow. The "IF" game would be played at 4:00 on Thursday.

Both teams were strong in the pitcher's circle on Wednesday, but Wayne County was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over the Lady Gators on Wednesday. Val Ortiz started the game for Ware County Gators Varsity and recorded 21 outs.

A single by Chyna Carter in the third inning was a positive for Ware.

H Stubbs pitched Wayne County to victory. She went seven innings, allowing zero runs on four hits, striking out two and walking zero.

Ortiz took the loss for the Lady Gatores She surrendered one run on four hits over seven innings, striking out four.

Carter went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Ware in hits. Ware was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Carter made the most plays with six.

L Echols led Wayne County with two hits in three at bats. J Taylor led Wayne County with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with four stolen bases.

GAME 2 RESULTS:

 

Lady Gators Outdone By Wayne County, 9-5

 

Ware County Gators Varsity got things started in the first inning when Dyonne McClain singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Wayne County evened things up at one in the bottom of the first inning when M Kagee singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

After Ware scored one run in the top of the fifth, Wayne County answered with one of their own. The Lady Gators scored when Lauren Smallwood singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. Wayne County then answered when Val Ortiz induced H Stubbs to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

Wayne County pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third L Echols singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run and T Wallace singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Wayne County scored four runs in the sixth inning. Wayne County's big inning was driven by singles by M PalmerEchols, and Kagee and an error on a ball put in play by A Easley.

Stubbs was the winning pitcher for Wayne County. She allowed ten hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out one.

Ortiz took the loss for Ware.  She allowed 14 hits and nine runs over five innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Ware smacked one home run on the day. McClain put one out in the fourth inning.

The Lady Gators tallied ten hits on the day. OrtizSavannah JeffersMcClain, and Smallwood all managed multiple hits for Ware County. Ortiz led Ware with three hits in three at bats.

Wayne County racked up 14 hits. EcholsPalmerKagee, and Wallace all managed multiple hits for Wayne County. Wayne County tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. W Moody led the way with two.
