Valerie Ortiz Selected To Play In All-Star Game
Val has been selected to play in the Georgia Dugout softball all-star game.  This will take place on Nov. 10th & 11th at LaGrange College.  Only seniors are selected for these games.
She has been playing varsity for 4 years.  Val has been the Lady Gators #1 pitcher for 3 years, including leading pitcher her sophomore year during the Elite 8 appearance in Columbus, GA.    She started on the mound  23 games this season.  The few games that she was not on the mound, she would be seen at shortstop or 3rd base.
Val's bat is also very impressive.  Val was one of the leading hitters this season with a batting average of .305.  She closed the season with 7 doubles, 1 triple, and tied with one of her teammates on leading the team in home runs, with 5.  She was also #2 on the team in leading with 22 RBIs.
Congratulations to Valerie on her softball scholarship and commitment to play at South Georgia State College after graduation.
"Valerie has been a huge key in our success the last three years.  She has done an outstanding job on the mound and lead this team to some great victories, including elite 8 and sweet 16. She is just a solid athlete.  She is solid on the mound, defensively, and her bat is strong.  She is very deserving of this award.  She is a great kid with a phenomenal attitude and has a fantastic drive to continue to work harder to improve", say Head Coach, Rebecca Kirkland
