The Ware County Lady Gator Softball team traveled to Cordele on Friday/Saturday to participate in the Annual Crisp County Softball Classic. The Lady Gators went 4-1 on the weekend journey to improve to 8-2 on the season. The Gator bats are absolutely on fire through 10 games while putting up 72 runs on 85 hits (63 singles, 15 doubles, 5 triples and 2 homeruns) Lady Gator batters have 63 RBI's. Senior Sierra Taylor leads the Lady Gators with a .625 BA while pounding out 15 hits in 24 at bats with 5 of those being extra base hits. Senior D'Yonne McClain leads the team in runs scored with 12 followed by Taylor with 11. Avian Trull and Savannah Jeffers each have one home run apiece.
Lady Gator pitching this year has been equaly as impressive. Through 58 innings, Ware has surrendered just 68 hits against 41 strikeouts and only 15 walks with a collective ERA of 3.138. The Lady Gators have surrendered just 39 runs with only 26 of those runs earned. Seven Lady Gators have taken the mound for the Gators. With at least 9 innings pitched. Senior Avian Trull has the best ERA with a 1.50 with no walks and 8 strikeouts. Freshman Erin Meeks has recorded 13 K's followed by Roxie Dixion with 10 and Culley Peavey with 9.
Defensive play has been good as well as the Lady Gators have a field percentage of .932. Ware has only 19 errors out of 278 chances. Adrian Harris and Lauren Smallwood lead Lady Gators with 47 and 36 put outs respectively.
In the tournament, Ware won both games on Friday by defeating Cook County 6-3 and then Appling 10-3. Saturday, the Lady Gators went 2 of 3 dropping game one to Bleckley County 7-3 before rebounding to defeat Fullington 8-1 and Dodge County 11-9.
The Lady Gators will travel to South Effingham on Tuesday to take on the Lady Mustangs in a huge Region Game that could put Ware in sole possession of first place.
