Gator Tennis Team Rallies but Fall Short in State Competition

The Ware Boys Netters season ended in the first round of the state tournament with a tough loss to Ola High School.  The match was a close one, and came down to a couple of third sets and a third set tiebreaker.

After finishing third in the region, the Gators had to travel to Ola to take on the number two seeded Mustangs.  The guys played some of their best tennis of the year, but fell short in a 2-3 loss.  Matthew Bagley and Brock Anderson, one and two singles, both won their match.  Matthew Bagley won in straight sets (6,3)(6,0) at the number one position, while Brock Anderson battled back after dropping the first set to beat his number 2 singles opponent (2,6)(6,0)(6,2).  Bailey Tatum lost at the third singles position in straight sets (1,6)(2,6).

The doubles teams had the gallery hanging onto every point in a pair of exciting matches.  Both doubles teams got out to an early one set lead then each one of them dropped their second set to force a third set.  The number one doubles team of Dawson Goddard and Joe Robertson came up short in their third set, and they lost by a final score of (6,2)(5,7)(4,6).  The most exciting match of the day took place on the second doubles court.  Maddox Hall and Ladue Raulerson played one of their best matches of their career.  They took their third and final set to a tie breaker.  With the entire gallery gathered around cheering for game, set, match point, Maddox Hall aced his opponent only to have the serve called out by one of the Ola players.  This forced a second serve and eventually led to Hall and Raulerson loosing the tiebreaker and ultimately the match.  Their final score was ((6,1)(2,6)(6,7)7-9.

Congrats to the Gator Boys on a good season!
