This past weekend, eight Ware County athletes competed in the 2019 GHSA Track & Field State Class 5A Finals, which was held at Grisham Stadium in Carrollton. Four of those athletes stood on the podium and accepted medals for placing in the Top 8. "Chris Jones finished 3rd in the High Jump, Jordan Howell finished 4th in the Discus Throw, and Ronasche Fluker finished 6th in the Triple Jump. However, one young lady, Cornesha Cannady, gave the Lady Gators their first state medal by finishing 1st in the 5-AAAAA High Jump event. "All of the hard work paid off for all these student-athletes," said Coach Alesia Gibson.
All the coaches, Coach Pierce, Coach Clark, Coach Robinson, Coach Humphries, Coach Houston, Coach Eichfield, and Coach Gibson are proud of all of the athletes that earned a chance to compete on the state level. We are also thankful for all of our athletes and how they worked hard the whole season. "As a team, we are losing a total of fifteen seniors. Hopefully, with the help of the underclassmen and the upcoming eight graders, we hope to get more of our student-athletes on the 2020 podium."
