Head girls basketball Coach Mandy Lingenfelter along with her assistant coaches and Middle School Coaches are hosting the 4th Annual 8 to 8 Basketball Camp here in the Gator Den today and tomorrow. The camp has grown signifincantly each year and contunies to be a staple in improving the middle school basketball teams at both middle schools.
Waycross Middle, Ware Middle along with Pierce County and CCA from Douglas are among the teams represented in the Camp. Coach Lingenfelter added that this is the only team and fundamental camp in the area and gives her staff a chance to get a good look at the talent that is coming as well as an opportunity to install fundamental drills that will carry over into the basketball season next year. Coach Lingenfelter's varsity teams are 51-8 over the last two years and she contributes a lot of the success to the 8-8 Middle School Camp that is held each year. The success at the Varsity level depends the quality of coaching and instruction at the Middle School level. Lingenfelter added "we need our middle school girls basketball players to have a solid fundamental foundation and a complete familiararity with base offensive and defensive skills and a command of terminolgy BEFORE they get to the high school".
Coach Lingenfelter also said that the Lady Gator Basketball program will be hosting the first ever JV/Varsity 8 to 8 camp here in the Gator Den, June 17-19.
Coach Lingenfelter would like to give a big shout out to FIREHOUSE SUBS for providing sandwhiches for the coaches who are working the camp.
