The Ware County Lady Gators ended 2018 with a bang last night by dunking the Brantley County Lady Herons 59-34 in the Swamp. The Lady Gators jumped on top of Brantley in the first quarter and kept their foot on the gas as they raced to a 28-14 halftime lead. Both team traded baskets throughout the third quarter, but the Lady Gators cruised to the victory in the fourth quarter out scoring Brantley 14-5 down the stretch.
Mataea Boyd led all scorers with 20 points followed by Shouveir Spaulding with 19 points. Latreona Holmes added 6 points while Justyce Eason, Chyna Carter and Korianne Yawn each tossed in four points. Cornesha Cannady rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
The Lady Gators will open up Region play Friday, January 4th as they host Wayne County at 6:00 pm in the Gator Den.
The JV girls basketball team started things off Saturday afternoon by topping the Brantley County Herons 40-27 in the early game. Trailing in the first half, the Lady Gators put together two strong quarters in the second half to earn the victory. Brantley held a 2 point lead at the half but the Lady Gators out scored the Herons 27-12 in the second half.
Cornesha Cannady led the Lady Gators with 18 points. Ronache Fluker added 11 points while Madelyn Musgrove and Quasha Barnes added 5 and 4 point respectively. I'Dasha Davis rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
The JV will host Wayne County at 3:30, Friday, September 4th in the Gator Den.
