Volleyball Team Getting it done with Summer Workouts

Volleyball is a physically intense sport that requires off-season workouts in order to go from Good-to-Great. The Lady Gators are doing exactly that by working hard this summer. "As a team, we are working on correcting bad habits, simplifying our offense, and doing a mix of strength/cardio/ plyometric training" said Head Coach Alesia Gibson. "As a coach, I have reflective on the pass couple of years and have realized that a successful offseason volleyball workout can help my players develop strength and technique, acting as a springboard for our development during season." Not only are the Lady Gators working out during the summer, they are bringing in some coaches who specializes in that area. This past weekend, Coach Gibson invited Coach Bob Nichols to Ware County High School for a volleyball clinic. Coach Nichols has worn several titles in his volleyball career. He is certified with National Federation of High Schools, Florida Department of Education Coaching, and has spent seven years on Board of Directors for USA Volleyball. One of my players, Mikayla Tyre, attended Coach Nichols' clinic in Gainesville, FL, and praised about how much she learned, and boy was she right. Coach Nichols worked with several Lady Gators players and a few from Appling and Wayne County. Coach Nichols focused on using the right form and techniques of volleyball. "I feel that each and every player benefited from this clinic, and as a coach, I was able to gain much needed knowledge as well," said Coach Gibson. The Campers and I would like to thank Coach Nichols for his expertise in volleyball.  Also, a thanks to Miya Malone (2018 Lady Gator Senior) for assisting Coach Nichols with the drills. Also, a big shout out to my manager, Romaya Kenney, for helping with drills and running concessions.

On Monday, the Lady Gators will host their 2nd Lady Gators Volleyball Camp! This camp will give girls 4 days of instruction on the core fundamentals of volleyball which include passing, serving, attacking, defense, and ball control. The camp will be instructed by the Ware County coaching staff and volleyball players. The cost includes instructions in the sport of volleyball, communication, and team-building skills. On Thursday, camper will receive a camp T-shirt, a pizza party, and a day of Beach Volleyball Games. Also, each camper will receive an evaluation of their progress. Note: The VB CAMP will be held at WARE COUNTY SCHOOL and the cost is $40. Several young ladies have signed up for early registration, however, you may still sign up on the first day of the camp. For more information, please contact Coach Alesia Gibson at 912-550-1296.
