Lady Gators Wrap up Regular Season with Three Victories

The Lady Gators wrapped up their regular season with all Lady Gators winning. Yesterday, the Lady Gators hosted the Lady Tigers of Bradwell Institute and the Brooks County Lady Bulldogs.  In the first match, the 9th Grade Lady Gators defeated the Lady Tigers. The Lady Gators would win the first game (25-16), but the Lady Tigers would take the second game with a close score 25-22. In the third game, the Gators would prevail with the score of 15-10. In the second match, the JV Lady Gators defeated the Lady Bulldogs in two straight games. They won the first game 25-16, and would dominate the second game 25-9. In the night cap, the Varsity Lady Gators defeated the Lady Tigers in two straight games. Both games were close, and both teams played hard. The Gators won the first game 25-18, and the second game 25-23.

"Overall, all our teams played well, but still made some careless mistakes" said all the coaches. Hopefully, the varsity Lady Gators can eliminate those mistakes before region play," said Coach Alesia Gibson. The Lady Gators will enter region play as the 3rd Seed.

Next Saturday, October 12th, the Lady Gators will travel to Statesboro High for their region tournament playdate. The Lady Gators will face off against the 2nd Seed, which has not yet been determined.

On a side note, the Lady Gators, the family members, and the fans recognized the Lady Gators 2020 Senior Class. "It was a bitter sweet moment," said Coach Gibson. "Although I am sad about losing such a great group of girls, I am happy for what God has planned for their futures. I wish them all the best in their future endeavors."

The WCHS Coaching staff, the Lady Gators, and the fans also recognized and honored one of our favorite Gator Moms, Mrs. Beverley Merck. Mrs. Merck retired this year after many, many years of service. As Coaches, we are truly grateful for what she did for all of us throughout her years of service. Not only was she our athletic secretary/bookkeeper, but she was and will forever be our FRIEND! May God continue to BLESS you!!! In honor of Mrs. Merck, several WCHS Coaches showered her with gifts from their sport teams. Even our middle schools, Waycross Middle and Ware Middle added gifts as well. Again, thank you Mrs. Merck for your service, dedication, and friendship.
