Swim Team Captures Second Overall Place in Gator Invitational

The Ware County Gator Swim Team hosted their second annual Gator Invitational Swim Meet at the local Waycross YMCA on Saturday, December 14, 2019. Fourteen teams traveled from throughout South Georgia to compete in the 22 event meet. 

The Gators had a strong showing with several state qualifying times and numerous personal best times. Lily Watson (freshman) placed first in the Girls 100 yd. Butterly event with a GHSA state qualifying time and new team record of 1:04.98. Lily also placed first in the Girls 100 yd. Backstroke event with a GHSA state qualifying time and new team record of 1:05.89. Evan Smoak, Hunter Hooks, Brantley Good, & Joe Robertson (all seniors) placed first in the Boys 200 yd. Freestyle Relay and qualified for the GHSA state swim meet with a time of 1:39.93. Greta Mayberry (sophomore) swam a personal best time in the 50 yd. Freestyle event with a time of 38.86. Kate Good (sophomore) swam a personal best time in the 100 yd. Freestyle event with a time of 1:12.91. Brantley Good (senior) swam a personal best time the 200 yd. Freestyle event with a time of 2:20.47. Micah Smith (sophomore) swam a personal best time in the 100 yd. Butterfly with a time of 1:08.28.

The boy's team placed 2nd and the girl's team placed 4th with a combined overall 2nd place out of 14 teams. This week's swimmers of the meet are all the GHSA qualifying swimmers: Brantley Good, Hunter Hooks, Joe Robertson, Evan Smoak, and Lily Watson.

 

Evan Smoak, Hunter Hooks, Brantley Good, & Joe Robertson (all seniors) placed first in the Boys 200 yd.

 

 Lily Watson (freshman) placed first in two events (Butterfly and Backstroke) Watson qualified for state in both events.
